Red Lion launches new RTUs for automation environments

These industrial controllers, equipped with onboard I/O, are designed for exceptional performance in extreme environments, making them ideal for demanding applications in sectors such as water and wastewater treatment, oil and gas production, and other advanced automation industries.

The new RTUs provide comprehensive standalone control over even the most challenging industrial processes. Features such as automatic data logging and timestamping, along with trend, alarm, and event sequence logging, ensure that operators have complete visibility of their operations. The robust IEC 61131 programming and configuration environment in Red Lion Workbench offers extensive capabilities for programming and troubleshooting, while support for ISaGRAF ensures backward compatibility. The units boast an open system design, incorporating Ethernet TCP, Modbus, Linux, and more.

Particularly suited for water, wastewater, and oil and gas processing facilities, the VT RTUs come pre-certified, enabling operators to easily add applications, configure and program as needed, and scale up from 1 to over 1000 stations. Multi-user connectivity is supported through 10/100 Ethernet ports, RS232, RS485, and up to four communication ports. The onboard I/O includes a mix of DI, DO, AI, and AO, with advanced communication capabilities such as report on exception, store and forward, and peer-to-peer networking.

“The VT-MIPM-138-D and VT-MIPM-248-D units represent the ultimate RTU upgrade for extreme industrial settings,” said Jacob Colegrove, Product Manager, Red Lion. “For operators moving from an existing Sixnet series, it’s the obvious choice. They share the same footprint, has equivalent I/O count, offer comprehensive data logging and networking functionality, plus programmable features for full flexibility.”

These controllers are built to withstand hazardous conditions and extreme temperatures, with an operating range of -40°C to 70°C. They also carry UL Class I, Division 2, CE, and ABS Type certifications, ensuring suitability for the most demanding industrial settings.
